More Information about the City of New Port Richey Florida

From humble beginnings, the city of New Port Richey Florida has grown into a respectable, prominent suburb of its larger neighbor Tampa Bay and is fast becoming one of the finer places to live in the state. With the quaint atmosphere that features around 27,000 people living in one of the most beautiful parts of Florida, New Port Richey is quickly becoming one of the premier places to live thanks to it's close to the coast setting and high standard of living.

Founded in 1924, the city of New Port Richey began around a post office that had been established in the area. However, the attractions of the Pithlachascotee River and Orange Lake quickly began to attract tourist and residents looking for places to fish and enjoy water sports. By the end of 1920s New Port Richey was a haven for Hollywood celebrities thanks to its moderate climate, beautiful surroundings and the land boom which had drawn in plenty of businesses. Unfortunately, the Great Depression of the 1930s had a profound effect on the city which took decades to recover.

By the 1960s however New Port Richey began a decades-long growth which continues today. Sims Park is the center of the community having been established since the beginning of the town and has held community events as well as political rallies.
