Local Information about Longwood FL

Located in the larger Orlando-Kissimmee-Sanford metro area, Longwood may only boast a population of around 14,000, but it does have the employment and recreation opportunities of cities with much larger populations. Unlike many of the communities in the region, Longwood actually enjoys a much longer history while providing plenty of housing and employment opportunities for the future.

The city of Longwood itself has been a popular destination point for Native American tribes dating back well before the arrival of Columbus. This was mostly due to a large cypress tree known as The Senator which served as a landmark and meeting point for people until the arrival of the Europeans in the 18th century. The city was founded just after the Second Seminole War of the 1830s and by the turn of the 20th century boasted a diverse economy founded on the citrus industry which is still quite popular in the area.

Although The Senator no longer stands, Longwood is still considered a popular destination by tourists thanks to the establishment of nearby Disney World and other popular attractions. Furthermore, the military also has a presence in the area with local air force bases provides a great diversity to the local economy. As for local attractions, Big Tree Park still boast some of the largest and oldest cypress trees in the US, making for the perfect destination for families. Naturally, there are plenty of golf courses, water and recreational parks, museums and other family oriented attractions that make this part of Florida special.

Those searching house for rent in Longwood will find a good selection of properties that run the range of expenses depending on what your budget requires. There are plenty of affordable, good quality homes in the area thanks to the large, nearby tourist attractions of which Disney World alone provides plenty of employment opportunities.

Finding homes for rent in Longwood is fairly easy, although the community was hit hard by the recent housing collapse in 2008. Despite this, the diversification of the economy has brought about a good deal of stability to the area. In fact, those looking for houses for rent in Longwood FL will also find great opportunities in real estate purchases. The historically low interest rates combined with an excess of homes has made the opportunity for home ownership most attractive. However, the prices of houses are slowly rising after they bottomed out in late 2011 so those looking at buying a home should move quickly.

With the recovering housing market, growing economy and moderate climate Longwood has become one of the more popular places in Florida for families to move thanks to the number of attractions available. Finding houses for rent as well as apartments, duplexes and purchasing real estate can be done fairly easily in this buyers market. Many families are taking advantage of the historic low interest rates and the opportunities present in the historic town of Longwood to move and start a new career and life in this central Florida community.
