More Information about Apopka Florida

The City of Apopka Florida is located in Orange County, FL about 12 miles northwest of Orlando, FL The city of Apopka which straddles both Orange and Seminole County in Florida is part of the larger Orlando-Kissimmee-Sanford area which dominates the central part of the Sunshine state. While boasting a rather modest population of nearly 55,000 Apopka is located in one of the more fertile areas of Florida and its central location makes it relatively easy to commute to work.

The name "Apopka" comes from the Seminole language and translates to "potato eating place" which generally refers to the region as being prime farming land. By the time of the Civil War, Apopka was starting to burgeon with American residents which surrounded a large Masonic Lodge which was built in 1857. However, the city itself was not incorporated until 1882 and grew steadily during the great Florida Land Boom of the 1920s and suffered with the rest of the state during the Great Depression.

Apartments, duplexes and houses for rent in Apopka are also quite numerous as the city does have plenty of good quality homes to choose from in different price ranges depending on the size of the home you are looking for. From larger, more expensive multi-story homes to smaller dwellings that fit the budget, Apopka is the place for finding homes in quieter neighborhoods.

Today, Apopka is distinguished by its numerous attractions catering mostly towards outdoor activities, most notably the many top level golf courses that are part of the community. Located within the larger metropolitan area of bigger cities, residents of Apopka enjoy the many attractions that are found nearby within easy commuting distance. Rock Springs Run State Reserve is a large park kept in its natural state and preserves the natural landscape of this area beautifully so visitors can take a break from the modern world.

Perfect for retirees looking for a place with a moderate, semi-tropical climate that only on rare occasions dips below freezing, Apopka is also well suited for younger couples looking at building their careers in an area ripe with both retail and tourism opportunities. While Apopka itself is smaller and has the security of being a close knit community, the economic opportunities are plentiful thanks to its close proximity to larger cities.

While homes for rent in Apopka are plentiful, the number of homes for sale is also numerous. The recent collapse in housing prices has stabilized and is now slowly rising. This means that those looking for purchasing opportunities need to move quickly to take advantage of historically low interest rates and homes currently below market value. These conditions will certainly not last so for the home buyer, this is the time to make the purchase.

Whether you are looking at houses for rent in Apopka FL or homes to buy, this is a safe, solid community to call home whether you are just starting your career or looking at retirement.
