Information about the City of Davenport Florida

Located in the central part of Florida, Davenport is a relatively small community that is growing considerably, especially in the northern sections of the town. With a population of just under 3,000 this old community is enjoying a much needed expansion thanks to nearby Lakeland and Winter Haven, two larger communities that have expanded considerably in the past two decades.

The origins of Davenport go back to the construction of Fort Cummings in 1839. While the fort only lasted a few years until the end of the Seminole Wars, the town itself sputtered along growing in fits and spurts over the next 170+ years. For a time Davenport was the spring training host to the Kansas City Royals and had earned the name Baseball City. Those days are gone now and today the town features a large shopping center.

This modest city seems somewhat out of place considering the massive expansion that is happening just to the north of the city limits, but for those looking at living in a small town community with major potential for employment in the nearby, larger cities, Davenport is quickly becoming an attractive place to live.

Finding houses for rent in Davenport depends on where you look. The central, older part of the town has a few choice selections, but the vast majority can be found north of the town as the massive expansion is currently taking place. New home contraction, hurt by the recent 2008 housing crisis, is still continuing but at a slower pace thanks to the number of people moving into the area looking for employment. As with most of central Florida, the economy is essentially tourism based with an emphasis on retail.

For those looking to retire or perhaps bringing their families to central Florida, the main attraction to be found around Davenport are top quality golf courses. Those looking for houses to rent in Davenport FL will be pleased at the number of outdoor activities the town provides, particularly if you are interesting in golf. You can also take advantage of exploring the countryside at the famous Captain Fred’s Airboat Nature Tours, experience balloon rides during the summer as well an enjoy the moderate climate of central Florida.

Searching for homes for rent in Davenport has become easier thanks to the growing economy and emphasis on the tourism industry. However, the town itself is rather quaint and is more of centrally located small community amidst the plethora of tourist attractions which makes it calm in the center of the storm so to speak. Finding apartments, real estate or houses for rent in Davenport depends on whether you choose to live inside the city limits or instead take advantage of new properties popping up on the north side of the community.

Centrally located, historically significant and combing small town charm with plenty of employment opportunities nearby, you can find plenty of rentals in Davenport, particularly on the northern side of the community and take advantage of one of the fastest growing areas in the US.
